Dating schemas do not work in a vacuum

If the Earth system was not the same, clocks that assume sameness cannot be treated as isolated stopwatches.

Radiocarbon is the cleanest teaching case

Two classical assumptions were known early as approximations and force calibration (production constancy; equilibrium with biosphere/ocean). See the Radiocarbon calibration literature (e.g. IntCal family: Reimer et al.).
